Sorry, I have a strong suspicion that at times, like me, you resemble a puppet on a string.
We all get frustrated, annoyed, angry. Things happen that just trigger these emotions. I’m sure like me, at times, this has developed into rage and an uncontrollable torrent of harsh words.
Nothing against emotions, we all feel them because we are human. The problem comes when you let them drive the action, and are triggered by the actions of others. In the latter case, this means that someone else is controlling your feelings. And if the former is also true for you, those other people are also controlling your action. A double dose of trouble for you in that case.
So, point number one, learn to stop allowing others to trigger you into action. Point number two, lessen the extent to which others can trigger your emotions. No easy task, but one well worth investing in.
Why? Because then you are the one who is in control, you are the one who decides what you feel and what you do. Then you will be able to cut those strings and free yourself to perform like never before.
Take a look at this – Mastering Emotional Control – if you want to make some progress on this. It’s another of my seventeen lessons in extraordinary influence. These, and others, are what underpin my coaching and mentoring work with private clients.
Now, at the very least, pay more attention to your emotions and how they are being played.
