Ambition is the outcome of the war between conflicting beliefs.
What is ambitious to some, is frankly pedestrian to others.
The ambitions you hold indicate the level of belief you hold about what you are capable of achieving. Your ambitions say a great deal about the level of your thinking.
Limited ambitions come from limited beliefs. That you can’t do things, you’re not up to that level, you’d be like a fish out of water.
The longer these beliefs are entertained, the stronger they become . In time, they become unassailable facts.
Most will naturally argue, realism is necessary. Why? Realism is just a personal judgment about what is do-able. And a biased one at that.
It could be that realism is driven by the motivation to avoid embarrassment. To minimise effort needed to drive towards an unrealistic ambition. Perhaps peer pressure, wanting to fit in. All of these things can hide behind so-say feasibility and realism.
But hey, that’s up to you. In my book, and in my client base, we operate to a different set of rules.
Instead of realism, how about determinism? Instead of limitations, let’s have challenges. No constraints, just stimulation to creativity.
Just because you haven’t done something in the past, doesn’t mean you cannot learn how to do it in the future. Just because you don’t know how to move forward, doesn’t mean you cannot find a way forward.
As you start to adjust your prevailing attitude towards the future, things start to slot into place. You don’t need to know every step of the route before you set sail.
The most important thing to get straight, is that you can do things that you haven’t done before. Once upon a time you believed this, so how about bringing back that childlike belief and get cracking. No time like the present, and 2022 is just around the corner!
Oh, and one other point, or observation.
Once you start to move, start to see what else is possible, ambition grows too as you realise that what was once ambitious is now pedestrian.
Have fun.
