Five Suggestions Before You Resign
An interesting call last Friday, the summary of which you may find useful.
Maria has been subscribed to the Influence Blog for several years after seeing me present at Warwick Business School. She finally decided to schedule a call to discuss a challenge that has been bothering her for a while. Afterwards, she described it as “the best discussion she’d had in years. Finally, someone who really understood what she was going through.”
And, I think there are some important points that may help you if you are in a similar position to Maria.
In a moment, I’ll share with you the suggestions I gave her, which will help her to avoid resignation. First, here are the bare bones of her story:

Command and Control: Alive and Kicking
Some writers on leadership like to imagine that the ancient leadership style of command and control is obsolete and disappearing fast. Does it feel like that to you? It is certainly less prevalent than it may have been in the 70s and 80s, but it remains pretty vigorous — at least judging by the volume of examples I hear of each month. Positive Influence for Women Summary
Over nearly fifteen years, since deciding to specialise in helping people to become more influential, one of the most frequent questions I’ve been asked on the conference stage and in the conversations following a presentation is…
“How do men and women differ when it comes to influence?”
To be honest, this is usually asked by women. Women seem to be very curious about this topic and my research over the last few years has revealed why they ask this, and what the differences actually are.The Differences Between Men and Women

If you feel bad about office politics that go on around you, you are certainly not alone. In any group of more than one, people will be trying to influence each other and some people use less savoury tactics or dirty tricks, in order to get their way.
Here are some of the more common dirty tricks which people use. Many of them were featured in our best-selling book, 21 Dirty Tricks at Work: How to Win the Game of Office Politics. These are shared here not as a game tip sheet, but rather a preparation for recognising them for what they are (office politics) and then learning how to overcome them with honesty, integrity and a fair degree of assertion.
