The Influence to Thrive Model aims to take people above and beyond their current trajectory and put them on the fast-track to greater accomplishment, whatever that means to them.
Some will be driving for financial success. Others far more orientated to fulfilling contribution. The way you define success in your life does not alter the efficacy of the model – it works regardless of your goal.
As you start to dig deeper into this model, in my experience it helps to prioritise your time and energy into removing the barriers or roadblocks to faster progress.
Here are some of the common obstacles I encounter when working with my private coaching clients.
The Five Cs of Influence to Thrive
Grasp Your CONTEXT
Gain an instinctive awareness of what is happening in your world, and why it is the way it is.
- Being distracted by the emotional reaction to what is apparently happening.
- Finding excuses to avoid the work of exploring the context.
- Inability to switch perspectives and investigate with an open mind.
Discover Your CAUSE
Elevate your purpose, mission or goal to the next level and leverage your emotions.
- Lack of clarity about desirable work/life journeys and outcomes.
- Hijacked and waylaid with the need for feasibility.
- Low confidence and self-worth negating willingness to set the goal.
Embrace Your CERTAINTY
Welcome rock-solid confidence into your heart and mind so you can stand strong.
- Inability to manage appropriate levels of personal ambiguity.
- Distracted by events and information that has little personal relevance or consequence.
- External locus of control and proof.
Align Your CREDIBILITY
Optimise the impression you make so that your impact and influence hits the mark.
- Lack of clarity and consistent application of impression management approaches.
- Over-reliance on personal standards and assumptions about what will work.
- Inability or unwillingness to self-promote.
Unleash Your CAMPAIGN
Create your game plan to move safely and rapidly towards your goals.
- Insufficient attention to planning, monitoring and adjusting campaigns.
- Negative beliefs surrounding engaging in the political dimension of work.
- Failing to engage and motivate others to participate in the campaign.
Your Next Steps
Quite simply, using the above as a means of increasing your awareness of what could be getting in your way, reflect on your performance against each of the 5Cs so that you can figure out where to apply some energy and development.
