When you strip away all the nice words written about trust, the whole thing boils down to one very personal judgement: predictability.
Does someone do what you expect them to do?
From maintaining confidentiality to delivered on time, we all have expectations of others, but how do they measure up?
And, others have expectations of you too.
In a remote working environment it is even more important to manage expectations because many of the usual clues that fill in the gaps in our understanding of others are hidden. You cannot see someone tearing their hair out if their camera is off. You cannot see the minute tell in their expression. Nor can you see what is happening around them.
Encouraging the team to share what else is going on for them is even more important today. As is openly discussing the inevitable challenges to trust and ways to minimise the risk of conflict.
What are you doing to increase trust in your remote world?
