Before you make your move, make sure you really understand how the world looks from their side of the table.
No, you don’t need to agree with them, you have to understand your opposition.
Imagine sitting in their seat for a moment. Pretend to hold their values, have their experiences,
Most importantly, consider what it is like to be driving forward their agenda (professional and personal).
You may need to get some help. Talk to friends, or even ask them.
But whatever else you do, you absolutely must do this with all your heart, leaving aside your beliefs, values and assumptions.
Do not sit in their seat and imagine what you would be thinking if you were them.
You are not them, and it is their position that is hindering your progress.
Do your level best to think as they would think, feel as they would feel, and view the world as they are viewing the world, to the best of your ability.
Then, as you look back at yourself through their eyes, you can begin to consider what to do for the best.
This is not an exercise in turning the tables ON your opponents, it is about turning your table TO your opponent, BEFORE you decide what to do next.
