When all eyes turn towards you, and the heat is on, make sure you don’t take it personally.
I totally applaud those who step up and take responsibility.
Those are the people who will go far.
Provided that in so doing, they don’t take things too personally.
For anyone doing great things, it is inevitable that the disturbance will create ripples, and some of those may not be very pleasant.
Which means that it becomes an occupational hazard, to be in the firing line.
Taking these shots as a personal attack will make you less inclined to take the risks, or to come back for more.
The alternative is to recognise that in the main, these attacks are mostly evidence of the other person’s vulnerabilities, insecurities or fear. Scared people lash out while struggling to hold on to rational thought.
Take these as signs that you are disturbing the status quo.
That people are reacting to your behaviour, ideas and challenge rather than to you as a person.
Oft times, the reality is that you (or your words) happen to be getting in the way of the attackers agenda, sense of security or peace of mind.
Adopting this emotional reaction will free you to continue pursuing your cause with integrity and heart.
And with your heart, you may then have some room to help your attacker and build the relationship for tomorrow.
Easier said than done.
Remember, your reactions to what is happening around you are your habits of thought and feeling – and you can change habits easily when you put your mind to it.
